A beautiful car, in the typical two tone color combination of the time! Chief Pontiac proudly is enshrined on the lighted hood ornament! Notice the “silver streak” design..the chrome down the middle of the hood and deck. This is the first year for the overhead valve V8 at Pontiac…ignore what I said about a flathead V8 in earlier models..it was a flathead straight 8..or a 6 depending on option. This car was up for auction at Zephyrhills, Florida.

it’s great to see you’re back. it seems i have a story about each one. i have loved cars since i was a toddler and still have some mid-fiftiess metal toy cars i got for christmas and birthdays.
i love the pontiac ‘55-56 years. you have posted another star chief 2 dr. h.t. with a ”primirose” color which was popular for the 1960 caddy. my dad had a ‘51pontiac with the external sun visor.
the hood ornaments actually had a hood light for the amber/plastic indian head in these years. neat.

love the ‘55 pontiac great flow of style, saw one about a month ago and the tailfins made it seem pontiac was ahead in styling, beating plymouths fins which didnt appear till ‘57!

Hey, Brent…that was what was so neat about GM at this time in its history. There was palpable competition within the ranks for the best design, engineering wise and style wise. Olds was the leader in new design…HydraMatic was first to appear on their models in 1939 as I remember..later it migrated to Cadillac and Pontiac. Thanks!

Hey, Brent! These cars were definitely style leaders! Pontiac was definitely meant to be a step above Chevrolet….and their use of trim and color (notice the beautiful interior) certainly proved it! The grille of the 55 Pontiac was thought of as very unusual in 55 as I remember it..you either loved it or hated it!
Jack
Thanks!

also i have just noticed the ‘55 Oldsmobile shares a similar front design and even the body line, with that almost Darrin dip like hip bump with the later ‘57 Chevy, i had never noticed this before, just looked over GM’s ‘55 lineup to compare them to the ‘55 Pontiac, and i noticed this, i guess maybe Olds was ahead of its time in design in ‘55! interesting how things like this are noticed!

very nice, these are the Pontiac’s i like, by the 70’s they lost me, and by the 80’s and 90’s there way way ugly in my opinion, but these have the interesting streaked trim, which is very neat and different, defiantly more to these ‘55 Pontiac’s trim wise than say the entry level ‘55 Chevy, also that Pontiac rear trunk emblem reminds me of the Oldsmobile logo they ran in these years, also the ‘55 Pontiac has a much more complex front grille than even Olds or Buick or Cadillac! in ‘55!

One of my favorite years for Pontiac. The split bumper and stylish two toning is a real eye catcher.
